"Gladesmore School (formerly Markfield Secondary Modern) was actually opened in September 1956; the article in question was dated 1958, reporting on the official opening ceremony which, strangely, took place some 18 months later, on 20th February 1958. Hopes were high in those early days and my memories of Markfield School alone would make a story in itself!

"Our Headmaster was a Bachelor of Science and an Associate of the Royal College of Music. He always wore a black gown and mortar board and was unoffically known as 'Batman'.

A reunion of the 1956 first 'intake' of former pupils is held once a year in Enfield."

By Richard Hadingham, who grew up in Tottenham in the 1950s. We thank Richard for sharing his memories. Please do get in touch, especially if you too have memories of the Moselle...
